What is a Transgendered Man?....
A Transgendered Man is a person with a gender identity that is not consistent with their assigned biological gender.
Still Don't Understand?.....
In the most basic of basic terms, a Transgendered Man is a man who was born a woman but became a man through various of procedures...
But Why?...
To understand the choice and lifestyle of a Transgendered Man, one must first understand the psyche and what it means to be Transgendered.
One must also be familiar with vocabulary and able to differentiate between certain words such as sexual orientation and gender identity (you’d be surprised how often some people confuse the two).
Gender identity has to do ONLY with a person’s biological gender: male or female. It is only that, nothing more and nothing less; while sexual orientation is your sexual attraction.
Now that we have that out of the way; every Transgendered Man was born with certain physical parts that did not match their inner identities. Emotions are a complex topic in itself so imagine not having the outer package match the inner one and having to deal with the pressures of society telling you to conduct yourself in a certain way because of your gender identity.
Not too fun eh?
What if you had the opportunity to change that? What if you could make your outer self match your inner self and live the way you want to, would you do it? Of course! And that is exactly what Transgendered Men did, in a nutshell.
More than likely, you have come across or interacted with a Transgendered Man, probably without even realizing it. But in an event that you do know and your genuine curiosity takes over, PLEASE keep in mind that they are human beings before anything else and should not be treated like displayed exhibits. Sure you’re going to have questions (which D.I.N was so nice to get some answered for you) but remember to be tactful. Nobody likes to display all of their business. And remember this, whatever personal secret or touchy topic you have about yourself, imagine someone running up to you and asking you a million questions about it. Take that feeling and apply it to whatever personal question you would ask a Transgendered Man. (Or you can just email us and we will get that answer for you!)
*Also: Be mindful of your pronouns. If you noticed we used individual a lot. When addressing a Transgendered Man it is important to be respectful of their titles. If Tammy is now Tim and he says to stop calling him a she, then STOP IT! *
